CNN —A Nicaraguan national who died last week in federal immigration custody had spent more than one year in detention. Despite having been recommended for release more than seven months ago, he continued to be held in immigration custody, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. In November 2022, an ICE panel recommended Rocha-Cuadra be released from custody, but officials at the facility declined to release him, a statement from the SPLC said. In a written statement to the press, Rocha-Cuadra’s brother joined a chorus of immigration rights advocates calling for the ICE facility to be investigated. Rocha-Cuadra had been in immigration custody after crossing the border illegally near Andrade, California, on April 17, 2022, according to a statement from ICE earlier this week.

June 30 (Reuters) - Four Georgia families sued the state in federal court on Friday to stop a law that bans transgender youth from receiving hormone therapy, joining a wave of challenges to similar laws across the United States. A host of Georgia state health officials and agencies are named as defendants. Unlike other states, Georgia does not also ban puberty blockers, typically the first medical intervention for transgender youth, who normally would next receive hormone therapy. Republican-led legislatures in 20 states have passed some type of ban on gender-affirming care for minors. Decisions on whether to block such bans in Montana and now Georgia are pending.

A screenshot of a purported deleted tweet by conservative parents-rights group Moms for Liberty quoting a white supremacist slogan is fabricated. The organization has clarified in a statement on Twitter that it did not post the tweet. The tweet reads, "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the line originates with an infamous “14 Words” written by white supremacist David Lane, and is the “best-known slogan of the U.S. white supremacist movement” (here). A tweet quoting the racist “14 Words” slogan was not an authentic post made by conservative group Moms for Liberty.
